Uniforms Constrict Me

Would you enjoy having to wear the same close every day? Well, about 24% of schools in the NZ make their students wear uniforms. I don’t believe schools should require their students to wear Uniforms.. I think students should be able to choose what they would like to wear to school and not have to wear the same outfit.

First, it takes away students freedom. Clothes are a major way how people express themselves. For example, I like to wear a hoodie and jeans. Others may like to wear the colours of their favourite team, like their favourite basketball team or a football jersey. Others may like to wear just a t-shirt and shorts if they feel like something more casual.. Uniforms would take that freedom away from the students.

How would you feel about that? Also, uniforms might give the feeling that the school is controlling them. What you wear plays a big part of who you are, and if everyone in school is wearing the exact same thing, it feels like you are not yourself. Lots of times, uniformed might take away someone's self-image and they might feel funny. This is just another reason why uniforms aren’t a good idea.

Lastly, it will be likely that the students wouldn’t like them. Going back to my first argument, it takes away their freedom. No one would want to live life wearing clothes that they don’t like. Things like sweater-vests and suits don’t appeal to many students. To add on, the uniform might not suit the student. For example, if it is a very hot day and you are required to wear a suit or a long-sleeve shirt, the students may feel uncomfortable and that may affect the student’s learning. Or if it is a cold day, and the student is cold, they won’t be able to put on their jacket or sweater, because it will be against the dress code.  In addition, wearing the same thing over-and-over again could become very boring. People say that uniforms make the students feel “good and warm.” Would you agree? Well, in some cases, different may be good. Uniforms puts students forward in their school. These are three good reasons why I think schools should have school uniforms. Some students don’t like school uniforms. But Uniforms are controlling. I hope that this will convince you to also think that school uniforms are good to wear, and that students should have to wear uniforms.
