What is a marigold flower?
Bees are necessary to plants because of their pollination duties, while wasps are beneficial to a garden as they feed on pest insects. Neither bees nor wasps are repelled by most flowers and plants for these reasons. However, several herb varieties and red perennials help keep bees and wasps from unwanted areas, such as pools or children's play areas.
What are the big yellow flowers?
Tagetes erecta are the tallest, at three to five feet. They are sometimes known as African, or American, marigolds. Bushy T. patula, or French marigolds, are somewhat smaller and more compact. Elegant and eye-catching, they have relatively demure flowers and usually grow from 6 inches to 2 feet tall.
Companion Planting?
Garlic planted among roses will help deter aphids. Asparagus, basil, carrots, celery and parsley are ideal companion plants for tomatoes to help each other grow. Tomatoes are also compatible with chives and onion. Sweetcorn does well planted with potatoes, peas, beans and squash.
Frost: Long lasting resistant. Seasonal planting sturdy plants.
